This was the basic motto that was used as guideline when trading was commenced. Having reached the 10th Anniversary of trading the owner/directors, Ross and Juliet Schultz have decided to take the simple formula they commenced with, to a wider market.

Since the beginning, many lessons and skills have been learnt and a heap of technology has been added.

From the lessons and with ambitions yet to be realised we have developed the following mission statement:

Ross Schultz

General Manager

The History:

Formed by Ross & Juliet Schultz, the companies roots were founded when the Rotorua manufacturing division of Fruehauf Trailers was closed down (formerly Roadrunner Trailers), where Ross had been employed as the Workshop Manager.

Active Transport Engineers was established in the early part of 1997 and commenced trading on 1st April of that year. Originally located in the Godfrey Transport yard on Allen Mills Road, Ross opened the workshop employing one staff member, who to this day, is still employed at Active Engineering Solutions. The main core of business was the service and repair work on trucks & trailers.

Expansion of premises occurred during 2002 with the renting of a second workshop on Vaughan Road, where the growing amount of heavy machinery work was carried out. It was at this time, the company name was changed to better reflect the type of work being carried out and the direction in which the company was heading.

A move to its current premises at 6-8 Vaughan Road occurred late in 2004. From there the business has grown to its current staff of 22.

A new workshop has been planned for the Heavy Machinery division for some time and this is soon to be built at the rear of the existing workshop.

The Owners:

Ross and Juliet Schultz

Prior to employment with Roadrunner Trailers, Ross’s early career was based around the operation and maintenance of trucks and machines, firstly Agricultural Contracting and then with Rural Transport, and finally a stint with Civil Contracting. The first forays into business ownership occurred early on with the owning and operating of trucks (Perkins powered Commers) in conjunction with other contractors. After a few years of this and stints overseas (playing Rugby and working in Aussie mines) he recognised that his passions allied more with the Engineering field, and enrolled at WINTEC where he gained his qualification, a New Zealand Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (NZCE Mech.).

Ross is General Manager of the company overseeing the general operation, while taking responsibility for some of the challenging projects. His biggest satisfaction is still that of creating a solution for his customers engineering needs.

Juliet commenced her career in banking and then moved to clerical work. Following a stint as a full time mother to the couple’s children, a move to ‘front line reception’ and ‘workshop administration’ followed. The expansion of Active Engineering Solutions has seen her become Administration and Financial Manager for the company.
